The Best Blogs for Small Business Owners

In this post, I highlight some of my favorite, and the web’s most popular business blogs. Let me know who’s blog you read in the comments section at the bottom of the post. I’m happy to update this list on a regular basis based on your feedback.

You may begin to see a common theme developing if you read my post on books to read for inspiration. Sir Richard Branson’s autobiography was at the top of that list too.

The reality is, if you want to aspire to do big things in business, he is a great example of a successful entrepreneur worth looking up to.

His blog posts are all penned by him.

He documents his business and personal achievements and philosophies, philanthropic efforts, and world travels.

And who doesn’t love a guy who is willing to playfully call out one of his employees who is caught sleeping on the job?

Check out Richard Branson’s blog here.

A truly unique character, James Altucher is a prolific content creator who started a blog, Altucher Confidential, to document his failures after the 2008 financial crisis.

It has evolved into so much more.

He is the founder of more than 20 companies, an investor, and an author, among other things.

Certainly not struggling financially, he chooses to live like a nomad, shacking up with friends and renting Airbnbs, and is notorious for owning very few material possessions.

On writing, his philosophy is to “Only write about things you either love or hate.  But if you hate something, try to find a tiny gem buried in the bag of dirt so you can reach in when nobody is looking and put that gem in your pocket. Stealing a diamond in all the shit around us and then giving it away for free via writing is a nice little hack…Being fearless precisely when you are most scared is the best hack.”

He claims that more people reach his blog by Googling “I Want to Die” than any other search term.

As of this writing, Googling this term results in Altucher’s post showing up fourth in the search results.

Altucher wrote a compelling piece on suicide and, as a result, lots of his traffic comes from people googling “I want to die”.

Altucher’s blog inspires people to live, take chances, and have no regrets.

You can read a great New York Times piece on Altucher here.

Sallie Krawcheck is a top 10 LinkedIn influencer.

After spending years as a Wall Street executive, she founded Ellevest, an online investing platform focussed on women, and Ellevate Network, an online network for women in business.

She offers business advice and writes about gender inequalities in business.

As of the date of this post, she has over 1.7 million followers who read her posts on a regular basis.

You can learn more about Sallie and read her blog posts here.

Godin is a well known entrepreneur, marketer, and author who has published several books on business and marketing.

But you don’t have to read them all to get his insight into these subjects.

His blog is updated regularly, typically on a daily basis.

The posts are short and sweet, so subscribing to his feed will provide some valuable insights from another unique, successful business mind, but won’t take up a lot of your time.
