FAQs

What exactly is the LivePlan workshop?

LivePlan makes developing a business plan easy.

TheEmbarkment.com also created an entire guide to help guide you through the process.

However, most people could still use some additional, more personalized support and guidance.

The Embarkment’s LivePlan Workshop brings you a low-cost way to connect with professional advisors and other like-minded individuals developing LivePlans of their own.

The Workshop is led by Howard Nilson, an MBA and CPA with over a decade of experience working with small businesses like yours.

The Workshop includes:

  • Access to an exclusive, private online community and forum, where you will be able ask questions, share ideas and feedback, and interact with advisors and other workshop participants.
  • 3 BizMiner financial and market industry reports of your choice ($300+ value). You can visit Bizminer here to review the kind of reports they offer to help you with your business plan. You will be able to choose your reports after you complete your sign up.
  • A collection of PDF worksheets for each section of your LivePlan to help you organize and collect your thoughts.
  • An invitation to a private Facebook group after the Workshop is over to stay connected with TheEmbarkment.com and the participants in the Workshop.
How is the LivePlan Workshop structured?

While no two workshops are exactly the same, as they progress based on the needs of each unique group, they will generally flow in this manner:

  1. Step 1 – Define your Why and What.
  2. Step 2 – Create a rough draft financial forecast.
  3. Step 3 – Progress through the rest of the LivePlan in order (see parts 2-10 of the Complete Guide to Creating a LivePlan for this order).
  4. Step 4 – Circle back to your financial forecast draft to determine if the rest of the plan supports it.
  5. Step 5 – Complete your Executive Summary.

Workshop participants will work through their LivePlan in this order, asking questions, sharing thoughts and resources, and providing feedback with other participants.

Who teaches the LivePlan Workshop?

Howard Nilson is an MBA and CPA, is the creator of TheEmbarkment.com and TheEmbarkment.com LivePlan Workshop, and leads the moderation of the Workshop.

Other professional small business advisors from the world of accounting, marketing and other professional fields are also brought into the community, based on the needs of each unique group.

Who is the LivePlan Workshop best suited for?

The LivePlan Workshop makes sense for a variety of more traditional small businesses, including:

  • Restaurants, Cafes, Bakeries
  • Retailers
  • Beauty Salons
  • Consultants
  • Health and Fitness Centers and Trainers
  • Wedding and Event Planners
  • Home Repair and Other Contractors
  • A Variety of Other Small Businesses

The LivePlan Workshop is less suited for many online-based businesses and rapid growth-oriented businesses (think Silicon Valley tech startups).

What the LivePlan Workshop is not.

The LivePlan Workshop is not a one-on-one consulting solution.

It is also not an online course. TheEmbarkment.com’s free Complete Guide to Creating a LivePlan provides guidance and advice if you want to create your LivePlan on your own and also provides the framework for the Workshop.

The Workshop is meant to be more interactive. No two workshops will be exactly the same. They will vary based on who is participating.

The Workshop will provide the little bit of extra support and guidance most people are looking for during the LivePlanning process. It is meant to bring together a group of people with a variety of different backgrounds and life experiences with the expectation that they will work together to achieve a common goal.

You will only get out of it what you are willing to put into it.

It will be most effective when all of the participants are willing to share their questions, ideas and provide constructive feedback to other participants.

With that said, Howard Nilson, The LivePlan Workshop lead moderator, will be active in the community full-time to offer advice and guidance whenever he can. He has a background in accounting and finance to help with developing your financial forecast and has become an avid student of marketing small businesses online. He is also a Certified LivePlan Expert Advisor.

Howard is committed to helping you achieve your small business goals in any way that he can, but will also bring in other outside advisors when necessary.

What is LivePlan and does the Workshop include a subscription?

LivePlan is the most popular online software for creating a business plan.

The software makes it easy to structure your plan, create accurate financial forecasts, and put it all together in a format that you will be proud of.

LivePlan is also a powerful tool to help you effectively manage your business if you keep your subscription active after creating your initial plan.

The LivePlan Workshop does not include a subscription, but you can sign up for one and get 50% off your first month ($9.95) here.

The Workshop can also be completed without a LivePlan subscription. While a LivePlan subscription is highly recommended, you should still derive value from the Workshop if you choose not to purchase a LivePlan subscription.

What if I sign up and end up deciding the LivePlan Workshop isn't a good fit for me?

We try to help all the participants the best we can.

However, we realize we can’t be all things to all people.

So, if within the first 7 days of the workshop’s start date, you decide the LivePlan Workshop is not a good fit for you, just let us know and we’ll refund your money.
